St John of God Bunbury Hospital has recently completed a $1.1M upgrade of its Interventional Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (‘Cath Lab’), funded by generous donations.
The Cath Lab has been refurbished with a state-of-the-art Phillips Azurion 7 M20 FlexArm Angiography Machine. With more advanced imaging capabilities and staff positioning flexibility, the upgraded unit will improve treatment outcomes for both public and private patients in the South West.
Thanks to ongoing support from the local community, St John of God Bunbury Hospital’s South West Coronary Care and Cancer Service can continue to provide state-of-the-art cardiac services, including interventional cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, coronary care and cardiac rehabilitation for patients in the region.
St John of God Bunbury Hospital Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Williams said the Cath Lab upgrade is part of the organisation’s focus on ensuring patients have access to leading care close to home.
“The new angiography machine has brought the latest in high-tech imaging to the South West community, with improved visualisation of structures in 2D and 3D it provides greater capabilities for cardiac and vascular procedures,” Jeffrey said.

Since it was first established in 2013, the St John of God Bunbury Hospital Cath Lab has performed a wide range of open and minimally invasive procedures with excellent outcomes. Cardiologists and vascular surgeons in partnership with caregivers at St John of God Bunbury Hospital provide comprehensive care that ranges from treatments as simple as lifestyle changes, to performing cardiac stent insertions, pacemaker and defibrillator implants.
The support of local donors through St John of God Foundation has enabled the hospital to continue offering patients of the South West lifesaving equipment that was previously only available in the Perth metropolitan area.
